Next G and 4G Networks and Data Plans
Telstra NextG Network
The Telstra NextG network is over twice as large as any other 3G network in Australia. It also covers 99% of the population.
While most other 3G networks run on a frequency of 2100 Megahertz, the NextG network runs on the 850 Megahertz frequency. This lower frequency allows for superior in-building coverage so the NextG network works better in more buildings, car parks and lifts, in more places, more often.
Telstra's NextG network is the fastest national mobile broadband network in Australia which means you send and receive photos, music and video clips faster in more places. Plus with the launch of 4G (LTE) on the NextG network in Capital city CBDs, associated airports and selected regional areas, typical download speeds of 2Mbps up to an incredible 40Mbps are possible. This data throughput speeds is significantly above that of any 3G network.
Telstra’s USB 4G dual mode device operates across both 3G and 4G capability on the NextG network, giving customers the benefits of 4G where it is available and automatically switches over to our advanced 3G HSPA enabled area of the Next G network outside the 4G areas.
Utilising a BigPond Ultimate® device, you can enjoy the use of the NextG 3G network with typical download speeds of 1.1Mbps up to 20Mbps in selected coverage areas.
4G LTE Network
4G, known as Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology has been integrated with the Telstra Mobile Network, and is initially available in all capital city CBD’s (meaning within 5km of the GPO), associated airports and selected regional areas (meaning within 3km of the regional town centre).
Customers in 4G coverage areas can enjoy typical download speeds ranging from 2Mbps to 40Mbps. Customers in 4G coverage areas can also experience typical upload speeds of 1Mbps to 10Mbps.
That means customers can upload 25 high resolution (2MB) photos to Facebook® in as little as 50 seconds, and upload a 10MB PowerPoint presentation in under 15 seconds.
Telstra 4G is backwards-compatible with its existing mobile networks, so our 4G devices will work outside of 4G-enabled areas. When customers leave a 4G enabled area they will automatically transfer to the NextG® network, and vice-versa.
Telstra Mobile Broadband Plans
Shared Data Plans - TMB Share Plans give businesses the ability to combining several users, or devices, onto the one account. Monthly data allowances are then pooled between all eligible users on the same account connected to the plan, helping to reduce exposure to excess usage costs across the entire team.
For example, if you connect five team members to a 4GB Share Plan each on the same account, you’d then have 20GB of data to share between those five users each month in Australia.
Customers who also have mobile services connected to Business Mobile Advantage Plans can share their unused data allowance with users connected to the new TMB Share plans on the same account while in Australia.
Monitor your estimated Australian data usage via the Mobile Data Usage Meter and receive SMS/Email alerts when your estimated usage reaches 80% and 100% of your monthly allowance.
