Phone systems use electricity, and this generation of electricity creates Carbon Dioxide (CO2) as a by-product. It is these CO2 emissions that are killing the planet, creating the effect known now as "Global Warming".

As the name suggests, carbon offsetting is measuring the CO2 output of a person, a car, a phone system etc and then creating a positive effect to neutralise this. This is referred to as carbon neutral and what we must all strive for.
